The Arizona State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) has reviewed your dam safety rehabilitation submission for the above-referenced undertaking pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and its implementing regulations at 36 CFR Part 800.
Project description. SYNTHETIC demonstration record. Dam safety rehabilitation submitted by AZ State Land Dept.
Area of Potential Effects (APE). The APE includes a polygon of approximately 102.88 km² centered at 33.6765°, -111.1624° in Yuma County, Arizona.
Federal nexus. The APE intersects the following surface management jurisdictions: Tonto N.F (USFS).
Flood hazard. The APE intersects FEMA flood zone(s) D, A (Special Flood Hazard Area).
Identified historic properties. The following NRHP-listed or eligible properties lie within or adjacent to the APE:
- Alchesay Canyon Bridge (NRIS 88001615) — 1.00 km from APE centroid.
- Tonto National Monument, Lower Ruin (AZ U:8:047A ASM) (NRIS 89000265) — 5.62 km from APE centroid.
- Tonto National Monument Visitor Center (NRIS 10000734) — 5.76 km from APE centroid.
- Tonto National Monument, Upper Ruin (AZ U:8:048 ASM) (NRIS 89000266) — 5.88 km from APE centroid.
ADOT historic / scenic route(s). Apache Trail Historic Route; Quartzsite to Wickenburg to Phoenix to Globe to Show Low to Springerville; Apache Trail Historic Route.
Determination. Based on the foregoing, SHPO concurs with a finding of ADVERSE EFFECT, with stipulations pursuant to 36 CFR 800.5. Stipulations to protect contributing resources during construction shall be incorporated into the project design and monitored by a qualified historic preservation specialist.
This determination is non-final until concurrence is received from all consulting parties. Should the scope of the undertaking change, please resubmit for re-review per 36 CFR 800.13.
